WESTERN RED CEDAR
Western Red Cedar is our "wood of choice" when it comes to constructing our exterior wooden shutters.
This beautiful, fine-grained wood
has natural tannins to help preserve its character, quality
and long lasting durability. It is naturally resistant to
decay, insects and weather. And every piece of cedar we
use is hand-selected and patiently kiln-dried, a time-consuming
and expensive process that reduces the cedar's moisture
content and the wood's expansion and contraction in years
exposed to the elements.
Timberlane shutters are crafted from
solid cedar - a small detail that has great impact on durability
over time. We never build our shutters from finger jointed
leftovers. When we do glue boards together, it is because
we set a maximum width to prevent "cupping" or
"warping," that can occur with wider boards.
Western Red Cedar is an open-pored wood,
so end grain cuts can be a little rough to the touch. Our
craftsmen excel at refining this texture. What is left is
the most subtle mark of distinction that you've chosen natural,
solid cedar shutters, hand-sanded to a silky finish.
Your shutters can never surpass the quality of the wood
from which they begin. Which is why we always start with
the best.
